Why Participant Feedback Matters to NDIS Providers

Aastha Community Services

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is founded on the principles of choice and control, and participant feedback is an important part of it. Listening to people with lived experience of disability is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen disability support and services. Feedback helps providers understand what is working well and what needs improvement. It plays a key role in shaping high-quality, person-centred disability services that truly meet the needs and goals of individuals with disabilities. Providers can adjust their practices and improve service quality based on feedback and it also enables
participants to take an active role in shaping their support plans and ensures that providers remain flexible, respectful, and accountable.

Through initiatives like the Participant Satisfaction Survey (PSS), the NDIA actively collects feedback from those interacting with the scheme, from applicants and participants to family members and carers. The survey gives individuals a chance to reflect on how they were treated, whether they were listened to, and how clearly things were explained during early supports, community connections, or NDIS plan meetings. It is a space to say what went well and what could have been better. The NDIA also engages participants through Participant First, a community of individuals who shape reforms by joining focus groups, co-
design workshops, and surveys. This ongoing consultation ensures the voices of people with disability remain central in designing future supports. Importantly, participating in these feedback opportunities is voluntary and does not affect funding or services. Personal information is protected, and feedback remains confidential. Every piece of feedback shared helps improve the experience of individuals, families, and carers as they navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
