Core Supports budget is all about practical, everyday support. It is intended to address the current disability-related needs of the participant as well as help them live as independently as possible. There are four key categories of Core Supports:
Assistance with Daily Activities
This includes assistance with everyday self-care tasks like showering, dressing, cooking and even assistance with moving around the house. Whether the participant need support in the morning, evening, or throughout the day, this category ensures that they can live with dignity and comfort.
Consumables
Funding for routine essentials, such as continence aids or low‐cost assistive technology that boosts the independence of the participants are covered under this category. These are products that the participants use regularly due to their disability.
Assistance with Social and Community Participation
This covers the supports that help the participants stay connected and active in their community. It might mean having a support worker accompany the participant to a hobby class, social gathering, or community event, whatever helps them stay engaged.
Transport
If the disability makes it difficult for the participants to use public transport, this funding helps them travel independently, whether to work, appointments, or social activities. Allocation of transport funding differs from person to person. Participants can reach out to their Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or plan manager for further clarification.
